What are the marks or shiny scratches on my smoothtop?
Do not attempt service or replace parts of the appliance unless referred to in the owner's manual. Follow all safety precautions provided in the owner's manual.

Marks on your smoothtop may be caused by water or metal. Water marks occur during cooking when condensation collects and drips, especially when cookware covers are removed. The minerals found in the water supply and acids in foods may spill on the surface and cause gray or brown spots. To remove water marks, make sure the surface is cool, put a small amount of white vinegar on the spot and let it sit for a few minutes. Next take a nonabrasive nylon pad and gently rub the spot. Wipe off any excess vinegar with a damp paper towel. Then, apply Amana’s Cooktop Cleaning Creme and gently rub with a nonabrasive nylon pad.

If the mark appears to have a shine to it, it may be a metal mark. Metal marks can occur from the cookware being used. To remove this type of mark, make sure the surface is cool, use a single-edged razor blade or a disposable scraper to carefully scrape off the mark. Then, apply Amana’s Cooktop Cleaning Creme and gently rub with a nonabrasive nylon pad.
