| SEALED BURNERS
Cleaning porcelain burner grates and caps is easier when they are soaked in warm soapy water after use. Make sure the grates and caps have cooled before cleaning. Frequent cleaning after use prolongs time between deep cleanings. Stubborn stains can be removed by using a mixture of baking soda and warm water to form a soft paste, along with a nonabrasive nylon pad. A mild cleanser without bleach or ammonia can be used. Care must be taken to ensure all cleanser is rinsed away before using the burners. You may also try the following cleaning methods:
Deep cleaning is done by placing a container with one cup of household ammonia, the grates, and caps in a sealed plastic garbage bag. Do not pour the ammonia into the bag; the ammonia must remain in a separate container. Do not soak the grates and caps in the ammonia. Let them sit overnight to allow the ammonia fumes to loosen the stains. When you open the bag, be careful not to inhale the fumes. Remove the grates and caps and clean them with water and a mild dish soap or baking soda using a nonabrasive nylon pad. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool because they can scratch the finish. Thoroughly rinse each grate and cap with water and dry before using it. Sealed burners can also be cleaned using Amana's Cooktop Cleaning Creme. Apply the cleaner with a soft cloth and wipe off thoroughly. Amana’s Cooktop Cleaning Creme can be purchased online from the Amana Store referenced to the left, by calling Amana at 1/800-843-0304, or by selecting “Locate Servicer / Local Parts Source” referenced to the left. You can also try using a non-scratching cleaning product with pumice which gives it a gritty appearance and feel. Although it is non-scratching, it is abrasive enough to clean the grates and caps. We recommend using a non-abrasive pad to apply the cleaner. REMOVABLE ELECTRO POLISHED BURNERS The electro-polished sealed burner cap can be cleaned using Amana’s Cooktop Cleaning Creme or a nonabrasive mild cleanser without bleach or ammonia and a soft nylon brush. Wipe off each cap thoroughly. Amana’s Cooktop Cleaning Creme can be purchased online from the Amana Store referenced to the left, by calling Amana at 1/800-843-0304, or by selecting “Locate Servicer / Local Parts Source” referenced below. If the cap is removed for cleaning, immerse it in a cleaning solution of hot soapy water. Immerse the burner and let it soak for 20 minutes, no longer. Then, remove the burner, cool slightly and rinse thoroughly with cold water. Be sure all of the solution is completely rinsed off both the inside and outside of the burner before replacing it for use. Be sure to thoroughly dry the burner before replacing it for use. The porcelain ignitor will not light if it is wet. Burners may be dried in a warm oven for a half hour. Protect your hands when removing dried burners from the oven. OPEN BURNERS Open gas burners are typically found on older cooking products. This type of burner requires little care other than to wipe off the head of each burner after it has cooled using a clean cloth with mild soap and warm water. Be sure the burners are dry before using them. Water lodged in the burner parts might cause an uneven flame or interfere with lighting the burner. Ranges and cooktops with this type of burner typically also have a hinged "lift-up" or "lift-off" cooking surface. The main top can be lifted to clean underneath and around the burners. If a boilover occurs, lift the main top and remove the burner so the port holes can be cleaned using a straightened paperclip or a straight pin. Do not use a wooden pick to clean the holes. Do not change the size or shape of the ports or ignition may be affected. Please refer to your Owner's Manual for instructions on how to remove and replace the burner. Heavily soiled burners can be cleaned by soaking in a solution with the types of cleaners used to clean coffee pots, available in most grocery or discount stores. Follow the instructions on the product package. Immerse the burner in the hot solution and soak for 20 minutes, no longer. Then, remove the burner, cool slightly and rinse thoroughly with cold water. Be sure all of the solution is completely rinsed off the inside and outside of the burner before replacing it for use. Allow the burner to dry thoroughly before using. Burners may be dried in a warm oven for a half hour. Protect your hands when removing dried burners from the oven. |
