Why does my air conditioner not have a drain?
Do not attempt service or replace parts of the appliance unless referred to in the owner's manual. Follow all safety precautions provided in the owner's manual.
Some models do have a drain. Consult your Owner's Manual to learn about your specific model.

Amana’s portable room air conditioners are specifically designed without a drain plug. The condensation collects in the basepan or bottom of the unit and is picked up by a slinger ring. The slinger ring takes the condensation and throws it against the hot condenser coil where it evaporates. This method helps cool the condenser coil. The cooler the condenser coil, the better the BTU cooling capacity and efficiency of the air conditioner.

The small capacity room air conditioners do not generate as much condensation as the large units. A small layer of condensation, not picked up by the slinger ring, will soon evaporate since it is near the hot condenser coil.

We do not recommend drilling a hole in the unit. This results in a loss of cooling capacity and efficiency. Drilling a hole also increases the likelihood of corrosion by exposing the unpainted edge to moisture. Additionally, you could possibly damage refrigerant lines or other internal components.
